Hold Off Titans to Snap Losing Streak Feb. 9, 2002 Fullerton, Calif. Box Score Ted Bell scored a career-high 23 pints and Lloyd Cook added a season-high 15 Saturday night to lead UC Riverside to a 70-58 Big West Conference men's basketball victory at Cal State Fullerton. Vili Morton had 15 rebounds and 10 points for the Highlanders, who snapped a 6-game losing streak to leave their record at 7-13 overall and 4-8 in the Big West. Ryan Dillon came off the bench to score a season-high 15 points for the Titans, who lost their fifth in a row to fall to 4-17 and 1-11. Center Babacar Camara tied a school and conference record with eight blocked shots and led Fullerton with 10 rebounds. UC Riverside jumped out to leads of 10-0 and 17-3 and saw Fullerton's leading scorer and rebounder, Pape Sow, pick up his third personal four with 13:14 remaining in the first half. But UCR had to weather several Fullerton runs. The Titans pulled within a point at 23-22 and were down by only two at the half, 33-31, after Derick Andrew scored twice in the final 33 seconds. UCR stretched its lead back to 8 points at 42-34 only for Fullerton to go on an 8-2 run and make it 44-42 at 10:42 on a Dillon 3-point basket. But Bell responded with a 4-point play to trigger a 9-0 Highlander run that made it 53-42 with 8:38 to play and the Titans never got closer than 9 points. The Titans shot only 32 per cent ferom the floor and were outrebounded by a 43-32 margin. Bell hit 6 of 7 3-point attempts for UCR, which last won on Jan. 12 at home over Fullerton. The Titans and Highlanders head north next week. Fullerton is at Utah State on Thursday while UCR is at Idaho. The teams switch locations on Saturday night.
