Gymnastics Signs Four During Early Period Nov. 22, 2002 Fullerton, Calif. The Cal State Fullerton womens gymnastics team has signed four athletes to National Letters of Intent to compete for the Titans in the 2004 season head coach Julie Knight announced on Friday. Brittany Evans (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest HS) will join the Titans after a stellar career with the Eagles Gymnastics Club in Kansas City, Mo. She wa a USA Gymnastics Level 10 National Championship Qualifier in 2001 and 2002, was named her club teams captain in 2002 and was the club teams 2001 Gymnast of the Year. I am thrilled to have Brittany joining our team, Knight said. Besides being an exceptional student, she is a beautiful gymnast with superior dance abilities and should make an impact on the Titans beam, floor and bar line-up as a freshman in 2004. The Titans second signee is 16-year-old Nicole Anne Lim (Oakland, Calif./St. Joseph Notre Dame HS), who competed for Cal West Gymanstics. A 2002 USAG Level 9 regional all-around champion and a 2002 Level 9 Western National Championship qualifier, Lim skipped the fourth grade and will graduate this year. Nicole excells academically, and gymnastically she is a diamond in the rough, Knight said. With oustanding form and basics she should be a contender on vault, beam, & floor in her first year. I am very excited to have the chance to work with her for the next four years." Incoming freshman Ina Yoshino Higashi-Izumi (Honolulu, Hawaii/Kalani HS) competed for the Hawaiian Island Twisters where she was a three-time USAG Level 10 National Qualifier in 1999, 2000 and 2002. I feel very fortunate to have signed such a talented gymnast, Knight said. Ina is highly skilled on all four events and should be in contention for an all-around spot her freshman year. Finally, Erica Lee Ficarotta (Las Vegas, Nev./Mojave HS) signed with Cal State Fullerton after competing with club Go For It USA where she was a 2000 USAG Level 9 Western National All-Around Champion and a 2002 Level 10 National Championship Qualifier. I couldnt be more pleased to have Erica as a Titan, Knight said. In addition to being a strong student, Erica is a very talented and dynamic gymnast who should vie for an all-around spot in 2004. The Cal State Fullerton womens gymnastics team opens the 2003 season on January 12, 2003, when the Titans welcome Utah State and Illinois-Chicago to the Titan Gym for the season opener at 2 p.m. ####
