Mar. 6, 2005– Palo Alto, CA

Four Cal State Fullerton fencers have qualified for the 2005 NCAA Fencing Championships at Rice University in Houston, Texas, beginning March 17, and two more are alternates.

Sophomore Rachel Liebing was the first qualifier in women's sabre at the NCAA Western Regionals Saturday at Stanford and junior Senta Breden was second qualifier in women's foil. For the men, senior Brian Fraser was second and junior Alex Decker was third, both in men's foil. It will be a return trip to the finals for all but Decker.

Senior Otra Olver is a first alternate in men's epee and Patrick Harder is a second alternate in men's sabre. The NCAA Fencing Committee will decide final qualifiers on Mar. 10.

As a team, the Titans placed third in men’s competition and fifth in women’s competition against a field that included Stanford, Air Force, Cal Tech and UC San Diego. Both the men and women won the foil competition. Breden went 10-1 to place second in women’s foil and Liebing was 10-2 to place second in sabre. Fraser placed second in foil at 10-3 and Decker was fourth at 9-4. Olver and Harder both finished fourth in their specialties.

Last year, the Titans placed 15th at the NCAA Championships. Liebing placed 12th in sabre, Breden was 20th in foil and Fraser was 19th in foil.
