Men Unbeaten, Women 2-1-1 in IFCSC Finale

Cal State Fullerton men went 4-0 and the women were 2-1-1 in a five-team meet held at UC Irvine Saturday leaving both teams in second place in the final Intercollegiate Fencing Conference of Southern California standings.

The men routed UC Irvine (24-3), UC Santa Barbara (25-2) and UCLA (21-6) while posting a comfortable 18-9 win over USC. The women blanked UCSB (17-0) and easily handled UCI (20-5), but tied UCLA (13-13) and lost a close one to USC, 14-13.

Titan fencers won four of the six individual conference championships -- Alex Decker in men's foil at 33-3, Otra Olver in men's epee (33-3) , Senta Breden in women's foil (36-0) and Rachel Liebing in women's sabre (34-1). Other place winners wer Brian Fraser (3rd in men's foil), Jon Cresante (5th in men's foil), Patrick Harder (3rd in men's sabre), Levi Ash (4th in men's sabre), Jennifer Tran (3rd in women's epee) and Patricia Cook (5th in women's epee)

In Saturday's meet, the men got 11-1 performances from Decker in foil, Olver in epee and Harder and Ash in sabre. Breden (foil) and Liebing (sabre) went unbeaten in 12 matches for the women while Tran was 11-1 and Cook was 10-2 in epee.

Cal State Fullerton competes Saturday in the NCA Regional Championships at Stanford.
