Blake Davis and Justin Turner both collected four hits and Scott Sarver
picked up his fourth straight win as No. 2 Cal State Fullerton routed
UC Santa Barbara 16-2 and completed a Big West Conference weekend series
sweep Sunday afternoon at Goodwin Field. The Titans completed their third
straight weekend sweep and improved to 33-11 overall and 11-1 in conference

Sarver faced the minimum through three innings and allowed only an unearned
run while scattering five hits to improve his record to 7-2. The left-handed
senior fanned a season-high nine Gauchos before giving way to Adam Jorgenson
in the eighth.
Five Titans collected multiple hits en route to Fullerton’s 20-hit
performance off of five Santa Barbara pitchers. Davis and Turner pounded
out four hits a piece with both men collecting a pair of doubles. Davis’
bases-loaded clearing shot to the left-centerfield gap proved to be the
game winning hit in the bottom of the fourth inning breaking a 1-1 pitcher’s
duel. Brett Pill and Brandon Tripp both went 3-for-5 with Trevor Mortensen
adding two hits of his own.
After scoring four times in the bottom of the fourth, Fullerton plated
nine more runs in its half of the fifth by way of nine hits including
four singles, two doubles, a triple and two home runs. After just 4.1
innings, UCSB starter, and eventual loser, Andy Graham (4-5) was lifted
for reliever Loren Fraser who faired just as poorly. Graham allowed eight
runs (four earned) on nine hits striking out only one Fullerton hitter.
Fraser and Alex McRobbie combined to allow eight more runs on nine hits
over just one inning of work. Justin Segal and Brian Tracy were the only
Santa Barbara pitchers to finish unharmed, working 2.2 innings of scoreless
baseball.
Flexing their muscles were Mortensen and Tripp who each hitting their
second homers of the year with Danny Dorn blasting his seventh, a three-run
shot, to cap the Titan scoring in the fifth inning .
Jorgenson pitched the eighth, surrendering a run on three consecutive
hits by Matt Wilkerson, Jack Pinkerton and Chris Webber before handing
off to Vinnie Pestano who came on for a perfect ninth.
