Danny Dorn and Felipe Garcia each homered and drove in a pair of runs
as Cal State Fullerton beat UC Santa Barbara, 9-2, in a Big West Conference
game at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The Titans, who have won 10 of 11, improved to 25-17 overall and 8-0 in
conference play to keep pace with Long Beach State. The Gauchos fell to
23-17 and 1-7.
Ricky Romero pitched eight strong innings, allowing a run on five hits
while striking out seven, to improve to 8-3. UC Santa Barbara starter
Andy Graham took the loss to fall to 2-4.
Garcia extended his hitting streak to 12 games in the second inning, when
he put Fullerton on the board with a two-run homer to left field. The
Gauchos cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third on Nate Sutton's
RBI-triple, but Fullerton broke out to a 4-1 lead in the fourth when Sergio
Pedroza drilled a two-run homer to right field.
The Titans added two in the sixth and capped their scoring with a three-run
ninth, which included a two-run pinch-hit single by John Curtis.
Clark Hardman and P.J. Pilittere each extended their hitting streaks to
11 games.
Fullerton will go for the three-game sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m.
