Ricky Romero threw a four-hit shutout and Blake Davis homered and drove
in four runs as Cal State Fullerton routed Pacific for the second consecutive
day with a 13-0 win over the Tigers in a Big West Conference game at Billy
Hebert Field Friday afternoon.
The Titans, who have won three in a row and outscored their opponents,
38-4, in that stretch, improved to 18-16 overall and 2-0 in Big West play.
The Tigers are 15-17 and 0-2.
Romero (6-3) threw his third complete game and second shutout of the season,
needing just 92 pitches to finish off the Tigers. He allowed just four
hits, struck out four and did not walk a batter. Romero retired 18 consecutive
batters after allowing a leadoff double in the second.
The Titan offense, which has racked up 41 hits in the first two games
of the series, gave Romero plenty of early support. Fullerton scored once
in the first before running out to a 5-0 lead in the second.
Danny Dorn, who was 4-for-5 with three RBI, drove in the first run of
the game with a double to right-center field in the first. Davis launched
his first career homer, a three-run shot to right field in the eighth,
when Pacific allowed five unearned runs.
P.J. Pilittere was also 3-for-5 with two RBI and Clark Hardman and Kurt
Suzuki each had two hits.
Fullerton will go for its second sweep of the season and will try to move
three games above .500 for the first time on the season on Saturday at
noon.
