Aaron Ivey singled in the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th and Oklahoma
went on to defeat host Cal State Fullerton, 5-1, in a Kia Baseball Bash
game at Goodwin Field Friday night.
The Sooners won their sixth in a row and improved to 6-1 on the season.
Fullerton, ranked 13th in the country, dropped its first home game of
the season and fell to 6-8 overall, its worst start through 14 games in
Coach Horton's eight-year tenure.
Jared McAuliff, who pitched 3.1 scoreless innings in relief, picked up
the win to improve to 1-0. Vinnie Pestano, who was tagged for all four
runs in the 10th (three earned), fell to 0-2.
Oklahoma got to Pestano for five consecutive singles with one out in the
10th and also used a botched run down to help produce a run.
Overshadowed were the starts by Oklahoma's David Purcey, who allowed just
a run on two hits in 6.2 innings, and Fullerton's Jason Windsor, who did
not allow an earned run in nine innings.
In the first game of the Kia Bash on Friday, USC used a pair of home runs
by Joey Metropoulos to beat Georgia Tech, 9-2.
