Suzuki's Heroics = Big West Player of the Week May 19, 2003 Fullerton, Calif. Cal State Fullerton catcher Kurt Suzuki, a sophomore out of Wailuku,
Maui, Hawaii, has been named the final Big West Conference Player of the
Week, the Irvine, Calif.-based conference office announced today.
Suzuki capped a memorable series with third-ranked Long Beach State at
Goodwin Field last weekend by drilling a full-count, two-out, three-run
homer off Long Beach State ace closer Carlos Muniz to lift the Titans
to a 9-7 win.
Suzuki also went 3-for-3 in the opening game of the series and batted
.625 in the three-game series.
He is the 10th Titan this season to earn player or pitcher of the week
honors from the conference.
Fullerton, which finished the regular season with a 43-13 record and is
ranked third in the country, will learn its postseason fate when the NCAA
announces the 64-team field on Monday, May 26. First-round host sites
are announced a day earlier.
