TITANS ’00:
Started 18 of 20 games at catcher during one stretch, but saw his playing time diminish significantly from mid-April on • Had just one at-bat in the Titans’ 13 regular season games in May, but had 10 at-bats in the Titans’ four regional games • Was one of the team’s hottest hitters out of the gate, collecting multiple hits in nine of his first 15 games • Was batting .373 heading into Big West Conference play • Finished third on the Titans with four home runs, but didn’t hit any over the final nine weeks of the season • Had the go-ahead single in the top of the ninth inning in the Titans’ 5-4 win at Pepperdine on Feb. 29 • Hit a three-run home run in Fullerton’s 8-3 win over Pacific on March 18 • Was hit by eight pitches, second most on the team • Titans were 17-4 with Kay as the starting catcher and 6-0 with him as the cleanup hitter.

TITANS ’99:
Reserve outfielder and catcher appeared in 12 games and started two as a designated hitter in February • Hit .133 with 2 RBI • Hits came at USC on Feb. 17 and Feb. 20 at UNLV.

MATER DEI H.S.:
Two-time most valuable player of the South Coast League and two-time first-team All-CIF selection for Coach Bob Ickes • Hit .389 as a senior with seven home runs, 27 RBI and seven stolen bases • As a junior, hit .458 with eight homers, 29 RBI and six steals • Second-team all-league pick as a sophomore when he hit .390 with seven homers, 26 RBI and seven steals while playing primarily in centerfield • Also played football and basketball.

Born on Oct. 31, 1979, in Long Beach, Calif. • Mother is Sandy Kay • Has an older brother (Eric) and an older sister (Kelly) • Majoring in criminal justice • Selected in the 35th round by Houston in the 1998 MLB draft • Would like to see Florida State added to the schedule • Says that Bob Sporrer and Mike Roberston were great coaches and father figures and have had the most influence on his career • Claims to have once played Sony PlayStation for three straight days • Favorite major leaguer is Pokey Reese.
